Smallville
tells the tale of a teenage Clark Kent in the days before he was Superman. It is the town where he came from where very strange things started happening with his arrival in a spaceship in the midst of a meteor storm of green rocks. Clark must deal with a variety of individuals given powers by the green rocks, keep his powers a secret, cope with his friendship with a young Lex Luthor, and balance the two girls in his life, Chloe and Lana. The show also shows us how Lex Luthor develops from a friend of Clark's and kinda-okay guy to (presumably) the villain who will plague Superman in his later years.

Smallville Season 8 News
Fans of the Superman mythos are undoubtedly thrilled by the recent announcement by the CW that Smallville has been renewed for an eighth season. However, according to Mike Ausiello at TV Guide, the drama about Clark Kent before he becomes Superman will be returning without Michael Rosenbaum or Kristen Kreuk.
Rosenbaum, who plays Lex Luthor on the show, and Kreuk, who plays the love of Clark Kent's young life, Lana, are both interested in pursuing their film careers, and as such have decided that they don't wish to be regulars during the show's eighth (and possibly final) season. However, both are open to doing limited engagements on the show, and details are currently being worked out to arrange that.
Ausiello also revealed the news that when the show airs it's first post-strike episode on April 17, a "long running character - a series regular - takes his final breath." Just in case there was any ambiguity, he clarifies "As in dies. For real. No cloning crap this time around."
While Ausiello doesn't provide specifics, our best guess is that he is referring to Lionel Luthor, played by John Glover. He's the only long-running male character on the show who isn't required to survive into Clark's adulthood.
Smallville
Smallville is an American television series set in Smallville, Kansas, but produced in Vancouver, Canada. Created by writer/producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the series was initially broadcast by The WB. After its fifth season, the WB and UPN merged to form The CW, which is the current broadcaster for the show in the United States. Smallville premiered on October 16, 2001, and completed its sixth season on May 17, 2007. A seventh season was officially announced by The CW on May 16, 2007.
The plot follows the adventures of a young Clark Kent as a teenager living in Smallville, Kansas, during the years before he becomes Superman. The first four seasons focused on Clark and his friends' high school years. Since season 5, the show has ventured into more adult settings, with some characters attending college. Recent seasons have seen an increase in the introductions of other comic book superheroes and villians.
Smallville has inspired a spin-off pilot episode, that was never aired, and promotional tie-ins with Verizon, Sprint, and Toyota. In other media, the show has spawned a series of young-adult novels, a DC Comics comic book and soundtrack releases. The show broke the record for highest rated debut for The WB, with 8.4 million viewers tuning in for its pilot episode.
