Laura Vandervoort is a Canadian actress who was born on September 22, 1984 in Toronto, Ontario. Her nickname is “VanderV,” and she is 5’ 7” in height. She has earned a second degree black belt in karate, and is the third cousin of noted Canadian performer Gordon Pinsent, as well as having an older sister named Sarah. Vandervoort has also had strong interest in writing, and studied at York University where she majored in both English and Psychology. One of her chosen personal quotes is that “Hollywood is something imagined, acting is something crafted.” She has acted in a number of television productions, among them Are You Afraid of the Dark, Twice in a Lifetime, and The Gavin Crawford Show.

Kara Zor-El is portrayed by Laura Vandervoort in the CW television superhero drama series Smallville. She is the biological cousin and fellow Kryptonian survivor of Clark Kent, also known as Kal-El, who was also sent to look after him and watch over him when they escaped their planet’s destruction. However, she was trapped in suspended animation for more than 15 years.
